Eleanor Lerman's debut novel is based on a real-life incident. Jessie Hersh, a woman living in New York, gets a call from a stranger in the midwest who works with a network of people trying to resolve cold cases of missinger persons; the caller says she believes that she knows what happened to Hersh's stepsister who disappeared decades ago, when she was a teenager. Hersh and her brother, who produces a televsion show that focuses on unsolved crimes, try to untangle the truth about this persistent mystery and the effect it has had on their family.
